Santa Fe, New Mexico People gravitate toward edges: shorelines where land meets water and water meets sky and deserts where land meets sky and mountains meet sky. On our last visit to Las Vegas (we go for the shows, not the gambling), we escaped the neon excitement of the Strip to see the Red Rocks and then Death Valley, and were quite simply in awe of what we experienced there. For some people, paradise is not a tropical breeze blowing over a calm clear sea, it is standing before ancient mountains painted in pinks and lavenders and umbers and reds by imbedded minerals and a setting sun. The American Southwest is one of our nation's many amazing regions, complete with its own environment and ecology, customs, history, culture, cuisince, ambience and feeling. It is paradise to many, and should be a destination for all. If you want to experience the American Southwest you could start with Santa Fe. Santa Fe is nestled in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, the foothills of the Rockies. In 1912, Santa Fe's city fathers mandated that future building reflect the area's Indian and Spanish heritage, so the city's architecture is historic Pueblo Revival and Territorial. The city's population of about 70,000 Hispanic, Anglo and Native American people is just a little fewer than the permanent residents of the Florida Keys. At 7000 feet, Santa Fe is the highest US capitol. It is also, because of its history as an art center, one of the world's nine UNESCO Creative Cities. In addition to local art studios, galleries and shops, Santa Fe's activities and attractions include: hiking, golf, dining, hot air balooning, fishing, geo-caching, skiing, river rafting, ice skating and swimming. To get to Santa Fe, you fly into Albuquerque from any of eight gateway cities, and rent a car for the hour long drive (53 miles) to Santa Fe. We offer free information and personal assistance with reservations for for accommodations and for local attractions and excursions. We can also help you decide when to come, find things to do, and possibly pick a great restaurant and find the best shopping. We personally visit the accommodations and attractions we represent to ensure you will receive quality service and have a really great time. If you have surfed the web and decided it is time to talk to a real person who lives there and knows where to go and what to avoid, give us a call. We answer our phones from 9:00 AM to 7:30 PM Monday through Saturday (U.S. Eastern Standard Time) and take messages 24 hours a day. We check our Email periodically throughout the day and evening. If you are planning to travel to the Keys in the next 30-60 days, we suggest you CALL us. We have learned that Email is best for requesting general information or for starting to plan a trip which is still several months away. We would love to place your reservations. And our services are free to you. Nancy and Paul Garneau Destination Paradise Providing personal concierge services to travelers since 1993.
