A few years ago, Michelle and Selby Blair bought one of the many small one-floor block hotels built throughout the Keys in the 50s, and did a complete renovation. Coral Bay shows what can be done with care and a major investment: tiled floors, beautiful landscaping, and tasteful tropical decor. Michelle and Selby have left the Keys, and the current owner, Bob Hart, has added his own touches, making the resort and even more pleasurable place to stay. Coral Bay offers a variety of room types, including large efficiencies. Resort amenities include heated pool, boat ramp, boat dockage, and a sandy beach area with swimming pier.

Rates: $150-400 depending on room selection and season.

Assets: Coral Bay is a popular resort with a large following of regular clientele, and it is frequently difficult for us to book, especially on a busy weekend. We like Coral Bay because of its range of accommodations and its quiet, bay-front location in Islamorada.
