Ryan and Bridget

Ryan Young and Bridget Vazquez of Utica, Michigan, were married on Saturday, June 11, 2005 at Holiday Isle in Islamorada in the Upper Florida Keys.

Tropical Storm Arlene, the first named storm of the hurricane season, appeared south of Cuba early in the week and headed north past the Keys and into the Gulf of Mexico. Its passing brought heavy rain, threats of tornadoes (and waterspouts), and winds in the 20-30 mph range. Keys weather on the Thursday and Friday preceding their planned ceremony was just bad, and forecasts called for it to remain bad through Ryan and Bridget's wedding day. Although they had planned for their wedding to occur on tiny Celebration Island at the Holiday Isle Resort in Islamorada, a backup site, indoors, was selected.

But the weather favors weddings in the Keys. Saturday, the day of their wedding, the rains stopped, the sky returned to blue, and, although the winds remained brisk, Ryan and Bridget were able to exchange their vows under the chiki hut on Celebration Island after all.

We wish Ryan and Bridget blue skies and favorable breezes always, and that they have a long and very happy life together.
